Mimicry

Mimicry: Even the children our watching and doing

Isn't it funny how we mimic people even the ones who are present and are not here anymore. When I first read chapter 9 all I could think about was how I use to mimic my teachers in school when I was younger. I mean I had the hand gestures and knew how to sound just like them down to the tee. Although When I was younger I used this to make fun of them but when I got older I realized it was wrong lol. However, people mimic celebrities and try to dress like them and act like them. Even our parents we have little things from both of them like I have my mom's attitude but I have my dad's patience. Children mimic what they see and they do it in the form of play. Ever notice children dressing up, playing roles of their parents it favorite action hero? My children mimic me through play and they do this buy putting all their stuff animals in a circle and read to the and do circle time as they seen me do many of times in a classroom that I use to teach in. My children warm my heart when they say I wanna be a teacher just like mommy, I want to go to college and etc. What's even more amazing is that we mimic our significant others, we start sounding alike, doing the same things and know how to piss each other off lol. Mimic and Mirror effect plays a major role in everyday life and we don't even think about it, that why me as a parent and an educator I always make sure that I'm doing the right thing so that my children and others will see how positive I am and dedicated. That's why we have to be more careful on what we do in front of anyone.

  2. I sound JUST like my mom and she sounds so much like her mom, same for my sister. When we are all together we are the same person. In September, however, I moved to New Jersey to go to school and didn't come back for more than a few days until summer. When I came back I noticed that I don't talk like my family as much anymore but within a few days I would hear stuff come out of my mouth and think "was that my mom?!"

  3. I could not agree more! My boyfriend and I are from two different sides of New Jersey with two completely different upbringings. Now that we live together I noticed that he is picking up on certain things I do and say, and vice versa. I find it fascinating that we mimic people without consciously noticing. It is something that naturally happens.

  4. When I was 15, I spent two weeks in Helsinki Finland at a soccer/juggling convention. People From all over Europe attended and, for most of them English was a 2nd language. I spent most of each day around them and in just those two short weeks, I actually started to pick up their European accent. I wouldn't even consciously realize it when I was speaking with it, it would be later on or after one of them laughed at me for it that I noticed what was happening.
