The Quietest Room in the World

The Quietest Room in the World

Psychologists study hearing and sound as a form of perception in humans. In a Minneapolis laboratory resides the quietest room in the world, an an-echoic chamber. The sound level in the chamber is -9.4 decibels, while humans can only detect sounds above zero decibels the chamber is considered to be soundless. It is found that when inside the chamber, other senses, such as hearing, taste, and touch become more sensitive. When the ear is deprived of sound it produces its own sound, and when in the chamber you can actually hear the sounds your ears are able to make. According to research  if spent too much time within the chamber, the complete silence can eventually drive someone crazy.

  1. Wow. It is so interesting that they can invent a room such as this. Maybe in the future they can use it as punishment for criminals if it really actually can "drive someone crazy"!
