The Uncanny Valley

                                                               The Uncanny Valley

Humans naturally are drawn to anything that looks like a face. Psychologists have been
studying for years our ability to recognize familiar faces. Many results concluded that humans are
drawn to faces instantly after birth, and we are more likely to recognize faces than we are to recognize objects. But, even if something looks like a face humans are perceptually aware whether or not it is a face. Discovery News did an experiment on face recognition and questioned why humans are so "freaked out" by animated faces. After showing immensely realistic animated faces of human beings through Activision, most people in the crowd were seemingly freaked out by the image. This concept, The Uncanny Valley, claims that the more and more a robot appears human the more abnormal it looks to a human being. The Uncanny Valley is still a controversial topic between many psychologists.
