Ultra Violet Light Percieved by Reindeer

The human eye is at risk of developing "snow blindness" when submerged in a winter climate due to the high reflection rate (almost 90%) of UV rays off of the snow.  The UV ray abundance is harmful to the human eye, but not the modern Reindeer eye.  Meaning, Reindeer have adapted to thier winter climate quite well.  Reindeer have taken advantage of the high UV ray presence by eye evolvement to utilize this high UV reflection rate.  They are the first large mammal to show this eye mutation.  In addition to the Reindeers eye adaptation that renders UV light visible, thier fur actualy absorbs UV rays as well.  This mutation has a number of advantages for the Reindeer species elaborated in the video below.
