Synesthesia
Honestly, the first thing that came to my mind when reading about synesthetes was the movie Ratatouille because I have never really had a solid idea as to what synesthesia was. So, I thought of it as something close to what the main character, Remy, sees when he eats food. Whenever he describes the flavor and texture of the food he eats, colors appear in waves and changes in pops and snaps as Remy describes the food. The colors also mix together when he combines different foods together. I'm not sure if this would be considered as synesthesia, as I still don't have a good grasp on what synesthetes experience, but I have come to associate Remy's experience with synesthesia.

Kelly, I love the movie Ratatouille, and I think that is a great way to have someone who might not know what synesthesia is. Most people have seen this Disney film and are a bit familiar with the plot on how Remy is an amazing chef. I am sure someone with synesthesia does not have waves, and pops as you described then they eat the food, but maybe they are imagining it like how Remy does.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with both of your comments. In interesting how much we learn from movies and television, even without understanding the information fully. The first time I ever heard about synesthesia was actually in an episode on Criminal Minds. I learned a little about it in another class, but not to the extend the book explains it here.
