Our sense of smell can be linked to our memories. Some smells can bring about different emotions. For example, the first time I can remember “smelling” rain was when I was ten years old. I was visiting family in Puerto Rico and along came a thunderstorm. Standing on my grandfather’s porch the smell was very strong and comforting. During rain storms in New Jersey, I am still reminded of the first time I “smelled” rain while in Puerto Rico. We are able to use our noses to figure out where smells are coming just like dogs can without seeing them. Smells can bring up memories from the past without consciously thinking about it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vY-HbcPInXw

  1. Although many years ago, I can specifically remember the scent of my Preschool. I often smell things that remind me of the school and same scent. I also love the smell of rain.

  2. Similar to Apryl's comment, I can relate a smell to different family members and friends houses. For example, my aunt's house always smells like a candle.

  3. I can relate a smell to different family members or different memories as well. I think its amazing when i smell a certain smell i know who it reminds me of without me even having to think about it.

  4. I agree with Samantha, families have a distinct smell. When I first enter another home I first realize the smell. I think its pretty cool how our we can unconsciously recognize someone by their smell and also when entering their home.
