You Can Recognize Faces by Touch

A human being's ability to recognize faces by touch, captured my attention immediately. It brought back memories of a Pandora jewelry commercial I had seen some time ago, which can be viewed at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRoqk_z2Lgg

In the commercial, one young child at a time, was blindfolded and lead to a line of women, one of whom was their mother. Each child was directed to try to identify their mother by touching the faces of the women present. The results showed that each child was able to find their mother and were able to do so seemingly quickly. -- Of course, it's also possible that smell (even odors we are not consciously aware of) also played a factor here.

Although this is a commercial that was meant to appeal to the emotions of its viewers, it is interesting that there is evidence, according to Rosenblum, that people can actually identify people by touching their faces.

  1. Wow, that was such a perfect match up for this section of our book! That is crazy that we can identify those we know so quickly not only by touch but by smell and even sound.
