Synesthesia - Can you hear colors? Can you taste words?

Have you guys ever heard of synesthesia? It is "the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body." As soon as I started reading this book and learning more about my senses it was the first thing I thought about. Some time ago I watched a documentary on people who claim they can hear colors other say they can taste words. I was super intrigued by this documentary some time ago and figured you guys might find it kind of interesting as well. I looked some videos up and came across a couple of videos to help you guys understand a bit more. Hope you guys enjoy this! Are you synesthetic?

  1. Viviana,

I was also very intrigued by synesthesia when I came across it in our book. Prior to this course and the book, I had never heard of synesthesia. I found it fascinating that this was even a thing that people experience! I think this video gives a good visual aid for those of us trying to picture how this works while we were reading the book. I especially like how they showed the photos of the brain and how it is affected when a person is a synesthete. It truly is amazing that our body is capable of so many things that many of us aren't privy to.

  2. Viviana,

Synesthesia is definitely one of the coolest things I have ever heard of before. Prior to learning about it on our book, I first heard about it actually in one of my classes at Stockton University a few semesters ago. A classmate of mine shared to us that she actually has it and I remember being so fascinated about it. She has explained that when she heard certain types of music she would acquire different tastes in her mouth and It was incredible to me that this even existed! For example, when she heard country music there would be a taste of something burnt in her mouth. Amazing!

Learning about synesthesia was definitely interesting, take it I've never heard about it before. After reading about synesthesia and learning more about it, it amazed me how interesting it is. It still amazes me that we are capable of many things that many people do not realize. I am happy I had the opportunity to learn more about synesthesia. Thanks for sharing!
