Reasons to Smile

In our book it talked about how a smile can boost your emotional state. Our facial expressions do more than communicate our current mood, they have the ability to influence our mood as well! Recent studies have revealed that through the enhancement of positive emotions or negative ones, with facial expressions, a person's overall mood begins to align more strongly with the emotion their face is communicating. Smiling can help in a number of ways. Smiling helps reduces stress, makes you more approachable, can make you more trustworthy, smiling helps retrains your brain for the better, they are contagious, can help strengthen the body on a cellular level, smiling helps boosts your productivity, makes you more creative, and lastly, smiles are free! Smiling is an all around mood booster and it is one of the few available to you each day. These are some of the reasons why you should smile everyday, because in the long run it will help your emotional state! Everyone can say that from experience. Smiling helps your overall mood and it is definitely contagious. I'm the type of person where I always am smiling and when I'm not you know something is wrong, but after reading more about smiling and the benefits I can definitely relate! Overall, it is good to smile and smiling is completely FREE!

  1. You make really good points. I wish I was the type of person that smiled a lot, but I tend to keep a straight face (borderline frowning) most times. I tend to be pretty neutral and/or serious about things, which I think contributes to my lack of smiling. However, I do believe that you and the book are correct that smiling (and smiling often) can and does have real benefits.
