Perception and Pheromones

The other day in class, we discussed pheromones and how they affect our perception of others and our ability to find a healthy mate. The ability to detect pheromones from an organ inside of the nose called the vomeronasal organ. This organ is able to detect potential mates that would be genetically compatible or incompatible with us. Often, the more variety in another person's MHC genes in comparison to our own, the more likely we are to find them attractive. Below, the video further explains how pheromones work and influence attraction.
