How the Brain Processes Music

A recent study conducted shows that participants' brains released several of the same chemicals (Serotonin, Dopamine, etc.) as released while on antidepressants that work as Serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). This finding suggests to scientists that music may have the ability to help rewire the brain. Furthermore, this explains why music has such a powerful influence on mood. Changes in mood can also lead to behavioral changes, which is why music can be used as a form of therapy (whether to hel heal others or ourselves). The video below can help further explain what goes on in our brains, when we listen to music.
