Baseball for the Blind

When first reading about Beep Baseball in chapter two and not having had much background on the subject I really had to read more into it. I've had a great amount of appreciation for the different activities Rosenblum has presented for those with needs different than our own; they all seem to grant people the ability to feel as though they can control what they want to do and how they live their lives.
The National Beep Baseball Association's website (NBBA Website) basically lays out the information Rosenblum describes in the text, but there are also images from previous World Series', which are pretty thought provoking. I think it's different to actually see them doing this rather than just reading about it.

  1. When I first stated reading about the beep baseball I was intrigued. I love baseball as a sport and I use to play softball. As I was reading and watching the video I tried to imagine if I was blind playing softball. It was hard to imagine because when I think of baseball I think of it as a visual sport. You have to watch the at all time; when the pitcher is pitching over home plate, or when your playing the field so now where the ball is. The concept of beep baseball is amazing. They depend on their hearing to know when swing the bat to hit the ball and listen for the beep in the field to know if the ball is coming their way. Watching the video really inspired me and made me happy to see people have the determination to follow there dreams despite their disability. I would really like to go watch these players and watch the love they have for their team and the sport.

  3. The idea of beep baseball is so cool to me. I love baseball as a sport- though I never participated in it! But I think it is amazing that people have come up with ways to help visually impaired live active, more normal lifestyles.

  4. After reading your post I went and looked through the pictures also, and you are so right it is completely different putting a picture to beep baseball then just imagining it! These people really must have a good use of their auditory approach system as well to avoid being hit with any baseballs flying their way!
