Katie Richter Blog Post 2 - Anosmia

Anosmia is the loss of smell. It does not have to be the complete loss, in fact, a complete loss of smell is pretty rare although it can still happen. Anosmia can be temporary or permanent depending on the cause of it. For example, I’m sure many people have had a cold and been unable to smell for a temporary period of time. This is a form of anosmia. Losing the sense of smell can cause loss of interest in eating because taste and smell are so closely connected to one another. Side effects of Anosmia are weight loss, malnutrition, and even sometimes depression.
