Beep Baseball

I found Beep Baseball to be very interesting, and I can't believe it has been played in the United States for over 30 years! In our country alone, there are over 15 teams, and the sport has been growing in Taiwan. Every July the Beep Baseball World Series is held, in which all teams come together to compete in. This sport in taken very seriously by it's competitors, and there is an extreme sense of camaraderie between it's competitors as well. To play the game there is a sighted pitcher, who uses a beeping softball, a left side base and a right side base, which both emit sounds to let the batter know which way to run, and the six fielders, whose objective is to field the ball before the batter makes it to his/her base. Each player will get four strikes, and each team gets three outs. If a fielder catches the ball in the air, the inning is over no matter how many outs were accumulated. There are also three sighted umpires who make all of the calls throughout the game. A run is counted each time a batter makes it safely to their base.

  1. I found this to be very interesting as well. As someone who grew up playing softball, I can recall how scary it could be when the ball was flying at me -- and I was able to see it! That said, beep baseball somewhat frightened me. However, it also goes to show you how good our other senses are, especially when seeing is not an option. I am sure it is also a great confidence booster for many people!

  2. Before working for the Major League Baseball, many have to work up the ranks through intern positions, called associate baseball scouts. click now
