physical touch is necessary for the proper development of children

I came across an article the other day which I had read a few years ago. The article stated that physical touch is a necessary thing for babies and children to develop well through life. In the twentieth century doctors could not figure out why the babies in orphanages were dying or not developing properly and it was found that it was because they were not physically held as much as they should have been. Also there was an experiment done on monkeys, with wire monkeys and terrycloth monkeys. The baby monkeys clung to the terrycloth monkeys proving that touch is an essential part of development.
