I was looking up illusions and came across this test. I never realized how heavily connected our associations really were until I struggled to with the test below something that should have been very easy to do in theory, but with 21 years of associating words with colors its difficult to separate the connection.
Word Color Test
In this test DO NOT READ the words, say aloud the COLOR of each word.
YELLOW BLUE ORANGE
BLACK RED GREEN
PURPLE YELLOW RED
ORANGE GREEN BLACK
BLUE RED PURPLE
GREEN BLUE ORANGE

This is a type of psycholinguistic test that poses some difficulty because the portion of the brain that handles language has the conflicting tasks of verbalizing the color of the written words while ignoring the meaning of words representing colors.
I have seen this test before and it is very difficult. I was surprised I was doing good until the very end and realized I had stated reading the word, not the color.
