The Artificial Retina project

I recently found this project that helps restore some sight to people who suffer from retinal diseases. The video describes the process of how the artificial retina "Argus II" works. Glasses that are worn by the subject capture a video of the surroundings which is then transmitted into a signal that the retinal transplant can understand. This signal is then transformed into pulses that can travel down the Optic nerve and the understood by the brain as a visual pattern. Subjects learn to understand the visual patterns. I thought that the way the artificial retina works is incredibly efficient and beneficial to the user.
