Perceiving Personalities

While reading chapter eight I was intrigued by the idea that someone can tell a lot about your personality through your facial expressions. The book explains that people who tend to be happy more often, appear more natural while smiling for a photo than someone who may be sad or angry more often than happy. I had never thought about it before but while reading about this one person in particular immediately came to mind. My one roommate is one the happiest, friendliest people I have ever met. She is always in a good mood and walking around with a smile on her face. Her moods are contagious and so is her smile. In relation to the text, I found myself thinking of pictures I have seen of my roommate. She is extremely photogenic and always looks as though her smile is so natural when getting her picture taken...I now know why!

  1. that is an interesting connecting you made to your roommate and how smile predicted such a happy personality. While living in my dorm last semester i noticed similar situation where one if the girls that sweetest person ever used to lighten the mood so easily... looking back i can remember she always did it with a smile on her face. I often found myself caught up in her excitement and happy personality. After reading this chapter, while it seems like a new idea that you can tell personalities from facial expressions really its something we have done our entire lives.
