as a musician i was excited to come across two words used in the musican world. pitch determines the sound of a instrument or voice, and can be described as high or low. where as a timbre is a combination of sound used to determine the sound or as some musicians know as a color or mood of the sound used to distinguish the different sounds.
After reading chapter 12 i now know why as a musician it is easier to determine the different instruments and pitches. Implied polyphony or compound melodic lines actually has another name in the psychology world also known as auditory stream segregation. This is based off of the ability to determine alternating tones, which alternate from high to low. as a musician you are trained to pick out the different tones in order to blend with a group or to make sure that you are in tune with one another.
through this chapter i have found a way to mesh my private musical life with my psychological school studies which was fun and very interesting to learn about!!

I have played the piano since I was 5 years old so I know what you mean by being able to pick up on different tones. However, I did struggle with the scale illusion in the powerpoint. I completely fell for it, perceiving two scales instead of individual notes in my right and left ear! It was really amazing.
