Do you remember when heinz ketchup came out with purple, green, and blue ketchup? I absolutely could not eat it. I knew it was ketchup and I knew it tasted exactly the same as red ketchup but for some reason the change in color made me think it was something else.Megan Shanamanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11266101773553125305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3322018507256276685.post-74649660372644003192012-06-09T11:21:17.230-07:002012-06-09T11:21:17.230-07:00Olivia - very interesting post. I'd love to see a study done based on how chickens interpret color differently, granted it would be tough to have a chicken properly convey the color differences. Your link on different types of color blindness is something I've never seen before - it's fascinating how the body compensates for the lack of color with color replacement, such as the red stripes on the flag looking green to someone with red color blindness.Kevinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12642407281437377281noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3322018507256276685.post-57844059231029016872012-06-08T12:14:11.106-07:002012-06-08T12:14:11.106-07:00I think that we are very fortunate to have evolved...I think that we are very fortunate to have evolved trichromacy. Some animals only have two types of cones, and are limited in their ability to see color. While some animals actually have 4 types of cones, like chickens, researchers find that this fourth color helps little in the ability to distinguish color. I can't imagine what it must be like not to distinguish all of the beautiful colors of the rainbow. I have a new appreciation for colorblind individuals. Although most are still able to see color, they have a greater difficulty in distinguishing some colors from others. Objects that are different colors may look the same to an individual who is colorblind.

The following picture represents the different kinds of colorblindness:
http://www.nature.com/scitable/content/ne0000/ne0000/ne0000/ne0000/6895582/US_flag_color_blindness.jpgOlivia Olivehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13807764764992235964noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3322018507256276685.post-73159035221504763462012-06-08T10:24:27.629-07:002012-06-08T10:24:27.629-07:00This topic was also one of my favorites. Just looking out the window we can see several different shades of green in all of the different plants. It is truely fascinating that just by mixing two colors together we can expand color by so much.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01946602872176515461noreply@blogger.com
